ABOUT WENDY:

Currently living in the southwest of Germany, Wendy Alber was born in Mauritius, a small island in the Indian Ocean.

She has been a passionate art teacher since year 2000 both in Mauritius and in Germany now. Her art is not static, some describe her as an expressionist artist and others say that she is a symbolist visual artist… However, she says that art is a way for her to discover who she really is and each brushstroke is a step in the pursuit of her identity.

Wendy Alber considers herself an artist since 2018 when she discovered the purpose of her art, it was a reconnection with her island and culture as well as her faith in God. It has been a long process which started back in January 2017, on a cold winter day in the Black Forest in Germany, it was snowing and it was white everywhere. Perhaps in a depressive mood, she decided to paint the three pears which were on her kitchen table and painted with intensity of colours and could not help than adding a sunset in one of the pears… This despair gave her thousand reasons to paint because of the good feelings that overwhelmed her after each painting. This was a sign and an urge for self-expression and painting has been a way for Wendy to put colours instead of words on her feelings and love for her Motherland. After a year of exploration, it is in 2018 that she would consider herself an artist.

Wendy paints with intensity of colours and enjoys mostly the use of acrylic paints, her favourite medium. Her Motherland, Mauritius, is her main source of inspiration and whatever she paints relates to feelings and her origin. Be it in an abstract form, figurative, expressive or realism, her main quest is colours, which she believes is the essence of her art. She says “Colours are the mirror of my soul, the expression of my thoughts and the quest of my spirit.”

2021 has been an important year in her career as an artist. With the Covid-19 travel restrictions, she could not travel back to her Motherland to see her parents. Suffering from long-distance separation, she would paint intensively with vivid, bold colours to free her soul from despair. Meanwhile, her works were noticed and she got several opportunities to exhibit both in a digital and virtual form in various countries which promoted her and her artworks at an international level. Her works have been seen in Zürich-Switzerland, Milan-Italy, Rome-Italy, Palermo-Sicily, Florence-Italy, Luxembourg, Tbilisi-Georgia (EU), Mumbai-India, Delhi-India, UAE, Palm springs-USA, Cavan-Ireland, Moka-Mauritius, Venezuela, Guatemala, Davik-Norway, London-England, New York-USA (Musical and Art Exhibitions, “Abstraction have Voices” by the pianist Margin Alexander in New York), Gironde-France. She is actively preparing an offline group exhibition to be held in Bad Bellingen in Germany and another coming group exhibition in New York.

Wendy Alber also features in two important publications, The Artist Talk Magazine Issue 16 and the Art Universal-The Great Encyclopedia of International Art. She was selected to receive the Art Olympic Prize (Itay), The Certificate of Merit for the Luxembourg Art Prize 2021 (Luxembourg), The Power of Creativity in Art Prize(UAE), Best Appreciation International Artist Award Certificate(India) and a Special Merit Award (USA).

Wendy Alber is an artist who has the head in the sky but the feet deeply rooted on the ground as she is a genuine proof of humility in everything that she does.
