Lena’s Art Statement:

I work as an artist in the north of Sweden. The winters are dark, the summers are bright and the sun hardly goes down. It´s mostly during the winter I work in the studio. I guess this big contrast affects my images. I work very intuitively, mainly with unique prints on a larger scale. The technique is a graphic monotype. I paint the image directly on the plate as I would on a canvas, and then I transfer it to the paper by handprint. I also print small editions of my work available as high-quality Fine Art Prints. My work is experimental with many elements of abstraction. You might see nature but hopefully in a subtle way that lets our imagination play. It is more central to me to portray a feeling rather than a motive and the color is used more to create atmosphere than to give shape. I consider my artworks as abstract poetic landscapes made up of light, color, and surfaces. I´m inspired by nature but I try to get behind the surface and paint what I feel before that landscape. I hope to capture some of the subtle, mysterious, and eternal in nature. The graphic technique with its sticky and dirty carbon black gives me the opportunity to capture the dualities around us. The fragile has strength, the light has darkness, and the beauty has depth. The contrasts become interesting and make the world as well as the artwork more appealing. Hopefully, I can pass on some of my own fascination with these dualities of life to the viewer. I want my work to be beautiful but not just beautiful and I try to keep them open for interpretation. Sometimes I also work with acrylic painting on canvas. Those paintings allows me to show other expressions that are not possible in the graphic technique.
