ABOUT KATERINA:

Katerina grew up in the Czech Republic, where she studied graphic design and art therapy. She moved to the US in 2018 and started to attend Mesa College, and in 2021, she completed her studies with an Associate of Arts degree. Now she continues to study at UCSD towards a bachelor degree in Studio Arts. She frequently presents her art on diverse occasions, and also the online magazine SD Voyager published an interview with her in 2020.

Her paintings are based mainly on personal narratives. Themes are created by cultivating automatic line drawings into specific shapes, objects or figures. These basic motifs reflect inner thoughts, feelings, or expressions of events that predominated in a certain period of her life.

Creating art is rooted in her relentless search for answers that hide behind the upper layer of everyday life experiences. From the first thought to the final outcome, art creation is a path of discovering her mind’s internal processes, observations, external circumstances, and situations that affect her. This process is spontaneous, and the images are like letters from her soul that she can read when finished. These letters don’t have clear messages, but they have a secret in them that forces her to return to the completed paintings and read them repeatedly.

The way she uses colors is influenced by the study of art therapy with its examination of colors and their influence on the human psyche. In her artworks, she usually combines acrylic painting with ink drawing on canvas. She also enjoys combining different techniques and experimenting with materials.
